The library witnessed the English Corner on November 5th as usual. Mr. Christopher Dockstader, Mr. Lucas Conrad, Mr. Brian Harrison, Ms. Dulene Cipriano and Dr. Aviva Shimelman were the overseas teachers who attended the activity this week. They shared different ideas about the hot social topic: Tim Cook, Apple’ s current CEO, admitted being gay bravely.
With the society changing sharply, Mr. Lucas Conrad considered that Tim Cook was a brave man. “Being brave is normal”, Mr. Lucas Conrad said. It was a normal phenomenon for an increasing number of people to come out of the closet because of the development of society. “It’s a reflection of society for where we are and where we go.” Mr. Lucas Conrad added. Mr. Brian Harrison paid more attention to practical things. He thought that as Tim Cook was a leader of a company, especially a company that had a big influence on all parts of the world, he should be more careful about what he said and how he acted. Anyway, making money is a business man’s real job. Ms. Dulene Cipriano wondered that social media should be responsible for this, since it broadcasts various kinds of thoughts through films, TV dramas, Internet platforms and so on to influence people’ s thinking.
Moreover, they talked about some other interesting topics like studying abroad and whether women really want to give birth to babies etc..
