At 7 p.m. on May 10, the sixth lecture was successfully held by Miss Sarah Tillman in Lize C105. And the title was "What''s this red plastic cup? - Myths, Facts and Expectations about US University Life".
At the beginning, Miss Sarah asked a question about a picture to star the topic, “Could anyone tell me the meaning of this red cup in America colleges?” “Yes, it means parties.” The students answered actively. Then, Miss Sarah briefly introduced herself and the types of American colleges, including some study information such as how to choose your major and how to apply for scholarship.
After that, she talked about the characteristics of students and the common issues in U.S. colleges. Students said that they not only knew more about American colleges but also learnt a new way to look on American students.
In addition, she also shared her experience of helping Chinese students apply for American universities and provided some valuable suggestions. For instance, before you go abroad you must improve your oral English and expand your vocabulary. And when you are abroad, you should adapt yourself to the new environment.
In the last part, a student asked "Chinese students and American students, which one do you prefer?” “Well, it’s really hard to say, but I think this is the reason why I stay in China”. Students all spoke highly of her answer. With the laughter, the lecture ended.
