On December 25th, there has been such a chill in the air since the Winter Solstice. At the night of Christmas, our English Corner was held in the Library as usual. The topic this time was “The Christmas in Britain”. Mr. Brian Anderson and Mr. Sean McHugh from Britain were the overseas teachers who attended the activity.

Mr. Brian Anderson told the students the tradition of Santa Clause with gusto. Santa Clause stemmed from Germany rather than Britain and America. On Christmas what makes children in U.K. joyful is receiving gifts from Santa Clause. On Christmas Eve, they hang their colorful socks over the head of their beds. When they wake up at dawn, those lovely gifts are lying in the socks silently. “It’s really great fun for children. However, the socks that kids hang over are getting bigger and bigger just like bags!” He bantered.

Mr. Sean McHugh talked about the dinner on Christmas Eve. He said that he does not really like the food on Christmas Eve, especially turkeys. “Turkeys taste extremely bad, and the reason why British people choose turkeys is that the super size of the bird is enough to feed a whole family but not for its flavor. It makes people quite upset.” The lobby was flooded with laughter of the students.

Listening to the teachers’ description, all of the students are dying to have a wonderful Christmas in Britain.
