The teacher who hosted the lecture was Mr. Alex Doubinin from Iowa Writers’ Workshop, with a master’s degree in Fine Arts of Creative Writing. Many students participated in his lecture.
At the beginning of the lecture, he read a few of paragraphs from his original novels and introduced some important elements of fiction writing as well. Then he told the students main characters in novels should be endowed with power, which made them more dramatic. Besides, he said, both good plots and bad plots should be written in the novel. However, some writers also gave readers surprising endings, because it could leave readers a deep impression of stories and make the novel close to perfection.
