On October 8, 2014, the second English Corner of this term was held on the first floor of the Library. Students took part in it actively. Mr. Martin Stannard, Mr. Charlie Reis, Ms. Linda J. Visner, Mr. Christopher Dockstader, Mr. Jeremy Jenkin and Mr. Andrew Chun were present.
Mr. Christopher Dockstader discussed some funny topics with the students around him, for instance the English accents of Japanese and Korean. Besides, they also shared some jokes. Other students focused on some serious questions.
From Mr. Martin Stannard’s perspective, when it comes to the comparison of Beijing and Guangzhou, he preferred the second one for it is a more quiet and better–organized city. Mr.Jeremy Jenkin answered several questions which were raised by students. He showed the photos of the pizza that he made by himself, and talked about his high school experience with the students. Later he mentioned his driving license and shared his opinions on the relationship between the power of country and the influence of its culture as well.
Since many of us had been to Hong Kong during the National Holiday, the latest news about Hong Kong was mentioned by Mr. Charlie Reis. However, the students were eager to know more details about it. What’s more, they were also concerned about foreigners'' points of view of China. Then, the students gradually knew the opinions from foreigners when they were talking about issues like Taiwan and Diaoyu island. Also, they got to understand the differences between the media coverage from home and aboard.
It is hoped the students can acquire knowledge and improve oral English in this relaxing atmospherehere.
